Sunrise in Victorville
by Siobhan Weston

POEM: Cont'd from page 1.

What if I shrink to the size of a mouse,
What if there's a murderer in my house?
What if I catch an allergy to my favorite season,
What if someone turns me in for treason?
What if I'm exposed to gruesome gore,
What if I fall through a trap door?
What if my skin starts to decay,
What if I gamble all my money away?
What if I fall in a pit of quick sand,
What if someone cuts off my circulation with an Iron band?
What if a tourcherist hacks away at my shin,
What if the floor caves in?
What if my insides swell up & dry,
What if I'm forced to consume a cow pie?
What if I knock my self out with whiskey,
What if I catch a fatal disease on my kidneys?
What if I'm mentioned in a negative roomer,
What if I get an orange sized tumor?
What if I have a failing blatter,
What if I fall off a twenty foot latter?
What if I get mauled by a grizzly'
What if I catch leprosy?
What if all ten of my fingers get knawed off by a beaver,
What if I catch typhoid fever?
What if a drunk smashes a beer bottle over my head,
What if I awake with a dead decaying rat in my bed?
What if someone locks me in their shed,
What if I awake with a gun to my head?
What if I die in a sinking submarine,
What if I'm the guinea pig for the latest guillotine?
What if I've been framed by a shop lifter,
What if I run into a drunk bar hopper?
What if someone locks me in a pillory,
What if I turn into a hillbilly?
What if I die in a shipwreck,
What if I have to eat dinner with a red neck?
What if I become terribly sick,
What if I talk like a hick?
What if I get involved in a bar fight,
What if I go into a coma & lose my eyesight?
What if the sheriff think's I'm acting suspicious,
What if I become superstitious?
What if I drink flammable oils,
What if I awake covered in boils?
And I awoke the next mourning,

But awoke the next night to the whatifs singing.

FAMILY HISTORY

Our ancestor, John Weston, was born in Buchinghamshire, England in 1631.  In 1644 he stowed away on a ship bound for America.  He would later become a ship captain and make several voyages between the Colonies and England.

He lived in Salem, Massachusetts until he was 21 when he moved to Reading.  He helped found the Puritan church in Reading.  He was skilled at business and at writing sermons.  When he died, at 92, he was the biggest taxpayer in town.

If you, as my grand children, want to know how you are related to John, he is your Great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great Grandfather.

For the above information we are indebted to Mary Jo McEwan of Olympia, WA who has made a remarkable contribution to the Weston history.  Her Mother, my cousin, was Mary Elizabeth Weston.
